Have you ever played Rook?
It's a card game. My grandmother taught me to play it when I was younger. Initial, I learned to play it because I was bored, and there was nothing better to do. Over the years, we would fight to be able to play Rook with Grandma. It often was VERY competitive., not surprising if you know my family. In college, I had some friends that would play Rook with me from time to time. In fact, the first time I told JR I loved him, we were playing Rook. (Okay, okay, we weren't even dating. We were partners against my brother and his wife and we were winning by a landslide. That deserves an "I love you" to a stranger, right? Like I said my family is competitive. Anyway, it work out well okay. I ended up marrying him.)
Well, since then I have had a long Rook drought. Then a few weeks ago, we played Rook. Now, we have played several times. One night we stayed up until the wee hours of the night playing; it reminded me of my college days. I am not as young as I use to be.
Every time I play I think of my grandma. It brings back the happy childhood memories. I am looking forward to teaching it to my girls. Rook could go on for generations!

Pete and I love ROOK! And we are very good! We should play a game sometime. I had no idea you played Rook.
I love teaching children things I learned from my grandparents, or even my parents. Makes me feel so close to them-- and gives my children memories of them even though they might not have ever met them. If that is how Grandma played, then that is the way it is-end of story.
You're taking me back to ALL the times I played Rook! I think I need to dust off my cards and play a few games!
We love Rook, too. Growing up, our family and extended family would have huge Rook tournaments. To this day a visit home is not complete without playing Rook with Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles. We should put together a Rook tournament sometime...I know there are quite a few of us who play!
I love that you dedicated a whole post to that awesome game! Maybe one of these nights we'll actually beat the boys!
Oh, I love Rook too! We had an all out brawl of a game over Christmas and this post reminds me I need to get my own set of cards.
I've never played Rook, so you'll have to bring the cards next family reunion.
I call it mormon poker. I looked for my cards the other day and couldn't find them. Whaaa.
Man, oh man, I love it too! My Grandma Mayme taught us how to play and we played by the hour. I associate Rook with my Grandma as well. Next time you come to Utah, I challenge you to a game. We'll let Rick and JR play as well I guess. That would be a blast!
