J Crew Pictures

You might remember my family took pictures this summer when we were all together. It was 104 degrees when we had our pictures taken. We were all melting!
Here are a few pictures from that day.

In reply to "Whooped"

The other day my friend put this on her blog.
"Motherhood kicked me in the butt today. Good thing there's always tomorrow to try again."

We have all been there! I love this thought about parenthood.

“Never forget that these little ones are the sons and daughters of God and that yours is a custodial relationship to them, that He was a parent before you were parents and that He has not relinquished His parental rights or interest in these His little ones. … Rear your children in love, in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Take care of your little ones. Welcome them into your homes, and nurture and love them with all of your hearts. They may do, in the years that come, some things you would not want them to do, but be patient, be patient. You have not failed as long as you have tried” (“Words of the Living Prophet,” Liahona, May 1998, 26–27; “Excerpts from Recent Addresses of President Gordon B. Hinckley,” Ensign, July 1997, 73).

I need patiences. I need patiences. I also need to remember whose children I am really raising.

The Squeaky Wheel

My school district is doing a new kindergarten schedule. The kids either go all day Monday, Thursday and every other Wednesday or Tuesday, Friday, and every other Wednesday. However, then there is reality. Some weeks with days off, in service, etc... the kindergartners only go to school once.

My sister did this schedule in her school district a few years ago. She didn't like it. Luckily, their district was smart and ended it. I am hoping my district will to

One of my friends has sent out an email asking all of us with concern to act. Here are bit of her email.
"Are you concerned about the new kindergarten A/B schedule? I firmly believe that the inconsistency of this program hinders learning at the early stages of education when children are building the foundations for success in school...I know I am only one of many concerned parents. However, Evergreen school district superintendent, John Deeder, claims to have heard only from two families about disappointment with the program. TWO!... This email is to urge you to support these parents in the effort to improve learning conditions for your children. Please call the office of John Deeder (360)604-4005 and leave a message with his secretary expressing your frustration and dissatisfaction with the A/B schedule. The more people who call ... the more likely it is this will change."

Many of my friends have called and been told the only way this schedule is going to be changed is if the district receives enough complaints. So, here is to the squeaky wheel! I encourage all to call! (Even if you are not in the area. Let them know people everywhere care about our kids)

A Tale of Two Sisters

Okay, in the next month two of my girls have birthdays.

One is in love with Snow White right now.

Great, the DVD just came out yesterday. Plus, there are tons of toys to go along with that.

She also loves Panda bears.

What do you know, right now the line of clothes at Gymboree is Pandas. How lucky am I?

Well, unfortunately, we have the other sister's birthday first. What does she want? Hmmm... that is tough. I have thought and shopped and now just hope she likes what I bought.

Oh, she is watching tv and just said she, "I bet one of my presents upstairs is a zhu zhu pet." Ah, I bet not.

What's a mom to do?
(At least she actually goes to the store with my mom. She can get something she wants then.)

Rook...Fond Memories

Have you ever played Rook?

It's a card game. My grandmother taught me to play it when I was younger. Initial, I learned to play it because I was bored, and there was nothing better to do. Over the years, we would fight to be able to play Rook with Grandma. It often was VERY competitive., not surprising if you know my family. In college, I had some friends that would play Rook with me from time to time. In fact, the first time I told JR I loved him, we were playing Rook. (Okay, okay, we weren't even dating. We were partners against my brother and his wife and we were winning by a landslide. That deserves an "I love you" to a stranger, right? Like I said my family is competitive. Anyway, it work out well okay. I ended up marrying him.)

Well, since then I have had a long Rook drought. Then a few weeks ago, we played Rook. Now, we have played several times. One night we stayed up until the wee hours of the night playing; it reminded me of my college days. I am not as young as I use to be.

Every time I play I think of my grandma. It brings back the happy childhood memories. I am looking forward to teaching it to my girls. Rook could go on for generations!
